| here is a story from my rough day at school today....
me: what causes the craters on the moon?
(student raises hand)
(teacher calls on student and is expecting a profound answer since we just read the answer to the question, word for word, two sentences ago)
student: why do people go on honeymoons?
that was just how the annoying part of my day went.....constant random answers to questions that will help them pass tests they have to take.
the other part of the roughness was the rudeness, disrespect, and mean attitudes....but i won't talk about that part because i am currently forgetting it so i can face them again tomorrow!
i hope you had a good day!
| WE HAVE A WINNER! actually we have several winners. don't worry there will be prizes for all.
the grand prize winner is none other than my sister cassie! but as jessie pointed out that is hardly fair because we have already determined we are a bunch of nerds. cassie-keep looking for your prize in the mail.
there are several runner up prizes coming soon. i am very proud of all who came up with the answer.
and now for the answer to the puzzle:
gheaughteighptough
hiccough=p
beau=o
naught=t
eight=a
pterodactyl=t
though=o
answer: potato...see i told you it was an easy word. good job to all who tried.
| EDIT**well, we don't have a winner yet but i have gotten a lot of good guesses and some of you are close. for those of you who are stumped here are a couple of clues:
1. it is only one word
2. the first part of the word (gh) makes the same sound as in the word hiccough (alternate spelling of hiccup, it's in the dictionary).
that part is the hardest so you should be able to figure out the word now. and just so you know i didn't make this up...i learned it at a worthless workshop i went to this week.
using all phonics knowledge you have, sound out this word. think of all the sounds that each part of the word could make. the word that you will end up with is a very normal word.
******the winner gets a prize! leave a comment here or im me!
and the word is... gheaughteighptough
GOOD LUCK! | | |
| well, it's official...the wynkoop's are real nerds. if you are thinking to yourself....oh, it couldn't be that bad....let me give you some evidence.
somewhere around when i was in middle school my parents came up with this great idea to not put names on christmas gifts. they put numbers on instead. (i think the real reason behind this idea is that when my mom was little she and her sister used to shake their presents and figure out what was in them....she feels like she knows what we are capable of) these numbers started out fairly easy, like our ages or our birthdays. however, as the years go by the numbers are becoming more complex. for example last year each letter of the alphabet was assigned a number (a=1, b=2, c=3, etc.). my number was 520...ET....elementary teacher (or extraterrestrial...you pick!). the sad part is we figure out what the numbers mean and who gets each number every year. we get some clues from our parents but we are nerdy enough to spend the time and brain power to figure it all out. well, this year i think cassie (my sister who is in school to become a computer programmer...CP...316) is going to have to write a computer program to help us figure it out. apparently every gift has a different number but somehow there are three different groups of numbers that are all related in some way....this ought to be interesting.
here are some of the numbers...1158, 114, 1329, 2683, 2779, 1206... my mom doesn't understand the number system and my dad had to generate the list of numbers from the computer. any ideas?
**EDIT- so we figured out the code and were given the formula (my dad came up with this formula) INT((RND()*1000)*3+birthorder where birthorder is zero-based.....got that guys?
yes we are DEFINITELY nerds. one of my numbers is 1329. 1329/3 has a remainder of 0 and since i am the first born that is my number.
| wow, it has been a month since my last entry....it has been a rough month.
so, i was watching kate and leopold the other day (i have cable now...very exciting) and i liked the speech kate makes at the end of the movie:
"it's a great thing to get what you want, unless what you thought you wanted wasn't really what you wanted because what you really wanted you couldn't imagine or you didn't think it was possible; but what if someone came along who knew exactly what you wanted without asking. they just knew like they could hear your heart beating or they could listen to your thoughts...and they loved you."
of course in the movie kate is talking about a boy (leopold) but when i heard her speech i thought of god. we think we know what we want but what if there is someone (god) who loves us so much and he knows exactly what we want...something we can't even imagine and don't think is possible. he knows better than we do what is good for us and what we really want. that is my comforting thought of the night.
i hope you all have a very merry christmas and maybe i will update a little sooner next time!
